Workshop “Energy Education”
Energy is a broad field. Therefore there are many approaches to this topic – energy. These approaches are not only restricted to mathematics, information science, natural science and technology, but they also examine ecological, socio-cultural and (development-) political connections and modes of action. This topic affects not only the training and work but it also embraces all phases of life. For this reason the workshop Energy Education has developed methods and instruments to embed the topic – energy in formal and non-formal teaching and learning, from early childhood education to adult education. The aim is that the Energy Education becomes very important to every citizen of the Administrative District Görlitz and affects all sectors of their everyday life.
Energy industry was and is the engine for the development of our region. In the Landkreis Görlitz people need energy and it is visible at many places – a open cast-mine in the North, industrial monuments of brown coal mining, stockpiles and lakes, which are spread all over the Administrative District, connect the past with the future, which is marked by windmills, biomass power plants or solar systems. To this day the energy industry offers people good job prospects that range from training and studies to the job and further education. Energy companies, power plants and the Hochschule Zittau/ Görlitz, which developed from the Energie- Hochschule Zittau, are important employers. The Landkreis Görlitz needs well trained and creative people not only from fields of engineering and science in order to develop itself to a innovative energy region. Energy Education connects knowledge of science and technology with socio-ecological action approaches of environmental education and also with cultural and political education.
Unfortunately, the educational institutions in the Landkreis Görlitz still don’t dwell on this topic or impart knowledge about it. An uninterrupted education and teaching ranging from day-care to adult education is not possible everywhere. Additionally, the already existing offers of Energy Education like the Lernstraße Energie are not yet sufficiently well known.
With the pilot project of the Landkreis Görlitz “Future through Education. With Energy and without limits” within the framework of the program “Learning on site” it is possible to make changes and develop new ideas for the energy education. To extend existing systems and to find forms of support and cooperation opportunities we bring together competences and contributors in cooperation with the Energie Agentur Neiße in the workshop Energy Education.
