"Challenges and Prospects for the Development of Qualified Employees and Education in the Euroregion Neisse"
One of the most important challenges for the German-Polish-Czech Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa (ERNNN) is the gradual opening of the economy and labour market. This market will be completely opened to Poles and Czechs by 2011 at the latest. In 2011, the integration of the people living in this area but also of the resident administrations, organisations, associations and societies will become reality in a life influencing and designing way.
The result is that there are many development potentialities and opportunities for this border region and its resident companies and employees.
With the help of the Euroregional Conference, the connection between the development in education and the regional development against the background of the cross-border labour and economy market will be placed in the centre of focus. The aim of the cross-border education network PONTES and the Marketingesellschaft Oberlausitz (marketing company) is to give impulses for a future-oriented development of the Euroregion and to support the cross-border co-operation between companies and educational institutions for a long time.
"Development Prospects and Conditions for the Realisation in the Cultural Region Upper Lusatia – Lower Silesia"
In border regions such as the cultural area of the Upper Lusatia – Lower Silesia with its direct proximity to the EU countries Poland and the Czech Republic, intercultural education as a cross-sectional task covering various areas of education, gains importance, however region-specific, for a future-oriented regional development. Cross-border co-operation in the fields of education, learning of neighbouring languages from an early age and the initiation of wide-ranging, common learning situations of the people living in our neighbouring countries should become a natural element when designing educational processes in our border region.
With this conference, we link to the results of the Cultural Region Conference "Responsibility for Cultural Education within the Municipality" from 2 April 2008 as well as the work of the PONTES workshop "Development of Euroregional Competencies / Neighbouring Languages" with the objective to concentrate more on the future competencies of both networks in this region.

"Quality in Training and Further Training"
The educational network PONTES and the Dresden University of Technology (Technische Universität Dresden) held this trinational conference to encourage an exchange of experiences concerning the quality of educational work in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. For the first time, this conference was an opportunity for the participants to discuss questions concerning the securing of quality in the cross-border training and further training in the Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa in this way. Here are some of the questions: Which quality procedures do the three neighbouring countries use? Which European and national quality requirements should be taken into account? In which way are quality management systems able to support the further development of the organisations which are working in the educational sector?

Those and other current questions were discussed during the 1st PONTES Educational Forum 2006:

- Do community-minded people, or rather people working on a voluntary basis know what they can do and do they make that obvious on the surface?
- How can the competencies of citizens be used as regional resources?

"Learn the Language of your Neighbour"
Thanks to its special geographic location, the Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa offers a unique "learning location" for the resident people to gain key qualifications like linguistic and intercultural competencies in the border triangle Saxony – Poland – Czech Republic. The language of our neighbours is very important to "break the ice" in order to get to know better the culture and the way of life of the people living in the neighbouring country. To encourage multilingualism in everyday life, is therefore a special opportunity and simultaneously a huge challenge for this border region situated in the centre of Europe.
- How can people be motivated to learn the language of their "neighbour"?
- How can region-specific conditions be optimally used?
These questions were in the focus of the second public PONTES educational forum 2004.
